Saginaw Shifter

March 31, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 1957 Chevrolet 210 with 350 2WD

Question:  Switching out my 3 speed to a 4 speed Saginaw using Summit Racing 700000 universal Kit. (Transmission not installed came out of a pre 60s car.) The reverse control shaft diagram shows neutral in the front position but only with this being in reverse position to the front, am I able to shift thru all the gears. Did some Saginaw have reverse towards the driver?

This is all dependent on the shifter assembly itself. All of the Saginaw transmissions are the same.  You can see the part we supply for the Saginaw transmission on our site.

NV3500 Interchangeability

March 28, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 1997 Chevrolet 1/2 nv3500ton 2WD Pickup Truck.

Question:  Will a NV3500 transmission out of a 98 chevy s10 work in my 97 chevy half ton there both nv3500 transmissions and there both 2 wheel drive.

Answer:   They will not, the rear output shaft is different and the gear ratios are different so they will not interchange as a whole unit nor will the internal parts interchange.  You can see the rebuilt transmission and parts we offer for the NV3500 on our site.

If I try and hold it into 3rd it will catch and then slip and then catch a second and then slip again. I’m kinda confused. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Answer:  From you description of the problem it sounds like the output shaft is moving from maybe mwt-308bearing failure?  1st and 3rd are both a forward shift but they are not on the same rail… 3rd gear is an issue for the NV4500 and always has been

Toyota RAV 1997 2.0L 4WD E250 Popping out of Gear

March 21, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a Toyota RAV 1997 2.0L 4WDToyota_E250_trans

Question:  I need a quote for a rebuild of my Toyota E250 transmission.  The 5th gear keeps popping out and now the 4th gear is starting to slip our as well.  What is the cost of rebuilding my transmission using mine as a core, also what is the warranty?

Answer:  Worst case scenario to rebuild your Toyota  transmission would be $1495.00 plus shipping… this would ship Speedy Freight to northern Minnesota on a pallet due to weight round trip shipping would be $160.00 both ways.  If possible you could deliver your existing transmission (core must be good) to factory in Zumbrota MN and pickup the unit, saving both the core deposit plus the freight.

Once we have the E250  unit open at the factory we can provide a more detailed estimate, you may even save money depending upon the damage your transmission has experienced.  This rebuilt E250 transmission will have a 12 month warranty.  You can see the other transmission part we can provide on our site.

Mileage Gain 700R4 Automatic to NV4500 Manual

March 20, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have that 1972 Blazer, thanks for nv4500_newthe cost estimated to convert from  automatic transmission to manual 5 speed NV4500, I need more information. I understand your upgrade kit for this application includes:

  • New NV4500
  • New Bell Housing
  • Clutch & Flywheel
  • Shifter Stub Stick
  • NP205 adapter.

Question: This Blazer currently has a 700R4 automatic in it that the previous owner had installed. Not a cheap conversion itself. Am I crazy even considering the 5 speed knowing it has the 700R4 in it?  Will I gain any mileage out of the 5 speed?

Answer:   We would expect that the NV4500  5 speed will gain 1 – 2 miles per gallon for the simple reason that the vehicle is not losing power thru the torque converter. The NV4500 is a lot stronger transmission than the 700R4 so decision is going to be based on what you do with the vehicle, if it’s a heavy duty application you probably want to proceed.
