Answer:   Sounds like you have diagnosed it correctly. We would suggest taking it apart and verifying that is the only issue.

Improve Shifting Ford ZF Transmissions

I have a Ford F250 1999 5.4L manual transmission 2WD.

Question:  Does anyone make an old school Hurst style shifter stick and ball handle for a zf6 speed. Stick and handle only.

Sorry we don’t know of anyone manufacturing the old style shifter. Some guy on the diesel forms made a few billet aluminum sticks but quit making them cause he didn’t sell enough and that was about 4-5 years ago.

See our short through shifter on our at site.

1972 Chevrolet Transmission Swap Automatic to Manual

- Author: bartbarton

I have a 1972 Blazer 4WD with the 350

Question:  I am researching a transmission swap online. Looking to swap my automatic for a 5 speed tranny. I have seen that for my application, the NV 3500/4500 could work. Not for heavy towing, but that’s not what this Blazer is for. What transmission do you recommend?

We can do a NV4500 conversion. The NV3550 would be a little weak for this weight of vehicle not to mention to tall of gears in the 1st and 2nd selection.  Our conversion kit for your application includes:

  • New NV4500 4×4 trans $1695.00 outright no core charge
  • 712576 Conversion bell housing package $389.00
  • Clutch and flywheel $300.00
  • Shift stub and stick included with trans
  • 50-0218 NV4500 to 27 spline NP205 adapter kit $599.00 plus S&H.

This would be a bolt in application and the bell kit would allow for either hydraulic or bell style manual clutch linkage. You will need to acquire the clutch pedals for the conversion.  This transmission will have a 12 month warranty.  You can see the other parts that we can supply for the NV4500 on our site.

Jeep Wrangler TJ 1998 5th Gear Problem

- Author: bartbarton

I have an Jeep Wrangler TJ 1998 4WDax5

Question:  My AX5 5th gear when out and I am currently in the process of ordering parts. The problem I am running into if finding the retaining clips. On your AX5 diagram, one of them is part 37. The other isn’t labeled and to the right of part 35. I acquired part numbers but they lead me to snap rings which don’t look anything like what I need which looks like a “C”. Can you provide any clarity on what those two C rings’ proper nomenclature and parts number is? Also, do you stock them or where can I purchase them. They are not available from the Jeep dealership.

To the right hand side of # 35 is a snap ring that would not be used in an AX5… # 37 is the retaining ring for the AX5 Main shaft 5th gear. If it #37- you need order our part number MWT 83500587 your cost is $2.50 plus S&H.

If you need something different please email us a picture from you phone.  You can see the other parts that we can supply for the AX5 on our site.

Nissan FS5W71 Transmission Shifting Problem

- Author: bartbarton

5 Speed Transmission FS5W71C

I have a 1999 Nissan pickup 5 speed transmission 4WD pickup truck.

Question: All forward gears work, reverse doesn’t work if I put it in reverse and take my foot off clutch it will not do anything.  Can you tell me what is wrong and what parts I need and also can you tell me the number for the transmission in this vehicle its a 4cylinder?

Answer:  This transmission is a F5W71 Nissan 5 speed.  Based on our experience it sounds like it could be a broken shift fork or broken roll pin? You will want to take the transmission apart in order to determine  the correct parts that you need to order, as there are 3 different style 5/R forks that Nissan could have used on this vehicle.

Depending upon the transmission on this transmission if it over 100k we would suggest you install a bearing overhaul kit.  You can see the other information on part that we can provide for your FS5W71 on our site.
