July 23, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 1997 Chevrolet diesel 6.5L 4WD

Question:  I’m wishing to purchase a nv4500_newNV4500 5spd to suit the above vehicle with the internal slave cylinder. I read that its $1695 including the 2 upgrades.(main shaft and 5th gear) how much extra for the cryo treatment, the P.T.O coolers, and the clutch upgrade. Could you please price these individually. Also would you have a Borg Warner 4401c transfer case to suit as well? also a clutch to suit the above with a single mass flywheel. As you can see, I live in Australia. Can you also quote shipping. If not that’s fine as I have a freight forwarder over there.

Answer:   We can provide the following:

  • New NV4500 with the internal slave cylinder  including the 2 upgrades.(main shaft and 5th gear) your cost $1695.00

  • Borg Warner 4401C transfer case part number TCGM027 your cost $1200.00 outright price no core required.

NV3500 transmissions 2000 Chevy Problems?

- Author: bartbarton

I have a Silverado, Chevy 2000 1/2 ton 4WD.

Question:  Just bought this truck. Will nv3500not go into reverse. It grinds and pops out. It also makes noise going forward. Should I repair or replace. Previous owner towed 8000 lb. trailer and backed it up. It stopped working shortly after. Also says 5th is bad too. Is it bad 5/R syncro or gear? Shift fork?

Answer:   From your description of all the problems it sounds like possibly excessive bearing wear is allowing shafts to move, plus damaged 5th reverse gear and synchro assembly and shift fork wear beyond the limits. The best option would be to install one of our rebuilt NV3500 transmissions in your ½ ton 4WD pickup truck.

Order our part number MTGM007 your cost is $1133.33 plus $250.00 core deposit plus Shipping. This transmission will have all new bearings, gaskets, seals and syncro rings and a one year warranty.  See the other parts we can provide for the NV3500 HM290 0n our site.

NP208 will not go into 2WD 1986 Bronco

- Author: bartbarton

I have a 1986 Ford Bronco 4.9L automatic transmission.

Question:  I have an NP 208 that I just  np208put back together with a rebuild kit and range fork, also a GM style planetary cover to replace the shredded plastic Ford style. Put all back together and vehicle runs in 4wd only, although it briefly ran in 2 wd. When I ran the shifter through to test, it would not go back into 2 wd. Wondering if there is a specific way to put the shift rail in properly? If almost think I didn’t put the shift plate that activates the forks in the right way, if that’s possible. I can’t find a diagram that identifies the proper location of the range and mode fork where they go into or on top of the plate. I’m hoping you can help…very frustrating.

Answer:  The shift Cam has a detent location so it would be very hard to install incorrectly.  Its possible that the coil spring on the mode (upper) fork is not in place, causing it not to disengage out of 4WD.  If you need additional help give Scott a call 888-824-2012 he can help you.  You can see the other parts we can supply for the NP208 on our site.

Transfer Case Problem 1999 Ford Expedition

- Author: bartbarton

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition with the 5.4L automatic transmission 4WD.

Question:  This ’99 Expedition is not  bw4406_transfercaserunning at the moment. Customer claims there was a loud noise in the transmission or rear end. The rear end is perfect, oil was clean, looked good. However, rear drive shaft turns hard and about three times harder to turn in forward direction than in reverse, but there are no noises, nothing sounds or feels like a bad bearing when turning the driveshaft by hand. How can I tell if the transfer case is defective without taking it apart?

Answer:   We believe that the Expedition has a BW4406 transfer case. We would suggest that you drain the oil in the transfer case, damage is usually shown by particles in the fluid.

One possible thing that would prohibit movement would be a broken or worn out fork no allowing the gear engagement.

Let us know what you find we can provide the parts you need. Give Scott a call at 888-824-2012 if you need more technical help.  You can see the other parts that we can supply for the BW4406.

Transfer Case Shift Problem NP263HD

July 8, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 2006 Chevrolet 3/4 ton heavy duty 4WD pickup

Question:  While the truck is in motion, NP263NP263NP263when I shift electronically from 2wd to 4wd the shift isn’t smooth and it sounds like gears grinding, but it will shift into 4wd. Shifting back into 2wd is fine (makes sense). I suspect the problem is with the transfer case. I would appreciate any information from your experience what could cause this problem?

Answer:    A few different problems can cause this to happen.  It could be just a worn mode syncro (inner) #701-1D , if that’s the case you need part number 401701-1 your cost $33.93.  And mode syncro (middle) #701-3D , if that’s the case you need part number 401701-1 your cost $42.92, mode syncro (outer) #701-5D , if that’s the case you need part number 401701-5 your cost $50.900.

Suggest you start by checking the fluid level and condition, the rear case has a tendency to wear a pin hole under the oil pump in the rear case resulting in a low oil level and damage to the mainshaft and drive hub creating premature synco wear also.  If the case has a whole you will need the following parts:  Item 760-2A Case Half Rear NP263 STD part number MWTMG620001 your cost $195.00.  Drive Hub / Bushing (splines into Drive Sprocket 2 piece syncro part number 401606 your cost is $48.98. Item 672D Main Shaft (49 Spline Pump) NP263HD, part number MWTNV48714 your cost is $199.89.

Other items you need will be Gasket and Seal Kit part number TSK261 your cost $39.99 and Chain item 700E 1.5″ wide 42 links part number MWTCL10-074 your cost is $144.40

If you decide not to repair or overhaul you transfer case let us know we can provide a manufactured unit.  For more information on the parts we can provide for the NP263 see our website.
