W56 4WD tranny problems

January 20, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 1989 4 Runner 2.4L 4WD Pickup

Question:  I have noise coming from the transmission on all gears except the 4th gear. I had the noise before, then I replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing and pilot bearing. The noise just got worse. 4th gear is still quiet/ Driving at 65MPH, the 5th gear has a high pitch whining sound. Do I need to overhaul my transmission and would I need all the parts including synchro and input shaft? Is it a W564X4 tranny?

Answer:  This is usually a result of running low on fluid damaging the input and cluster gear.  We recommend the following parts.

  • Bearing Rebuild Kit with Synchro Rings 4Runner (2.4L) (Truck has Original Input Shaft) 20MM OD input brg, wire sync springs part number TRSBK162WS, your cost is $258.85.
  • Input Shaft (32 T) (1 Groove) (4wd) (Pickup & 4-Runner) part number TRS337670 your cost is $64.17.
  • Cluster Shaft (47-35-24-13-14) (4wd) (Pickup & 4-Runner) part number TRS337674 your cost $153.33 plus shipping,

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 5.9L 3/4 ton

Question:  I’m doing an auto-to-manual transmission swap. I’m putting a nv5600 6-speed trans in and the output shaft is different than the auto. I’d like to change the input shaft of the transfer case to accept the 32(I think)spline output shaft of the NV5600. I’m dealing with a 241DH part 32150 transfer case. Is there an input shaft made to do this, or do I have to go junkyard shopping?

Answer:  It is actually a 29 spline input you need…. NP4856629 cost $132.00 plus freight give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.

T5 5 Speed for Hot Rod

January 19, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

The transmission I am looking for is a T5WC, that came from a 1987 S10 pickup.

Question: I am looking for a world class T5 with the T5_manual_transshifter in the forward most position it was offered. That is right at the VERY front of the tailshaft housing, with the long tailshaft (looks like a powerglide tail-long),it is for a hotrod build so these and front bolt pattern are are most needed specs. a mechanical speedo tailshaft would be a dream. It is for a model/v8 flathead, so shifter must be forward as possible.

Answer:   We can provide a re manufactured T5 S10 world class with a mechanical speedometer with a 12 month warranty your cost is $1250.00 outright, plus freight, with 1 week to ship date.  This transmission has a 12 month warranty

You can see the other parts that we can provide for the T5WC manual transmissions.

Cadillac Escalade Transfer Case Break in?

January 16, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 2002 Cadillac Escalade 6.0L automatic

Question:  I just installed my Midwest rebuild Ifs front differential and wanted to if I needed observe a break-in period?

Answer:   There isn’t a real break in period but it is a good idea to change the fluid in 10,000 miles or so and then every 30,000 after that

I have a 2009 Silverado 5.3 L 4WD

Question:  I would like to swap my NQH (MP-3023) electronically shifted transfer case for an NQG (MP-1222) manually shifted transfer case. Do they have the same dimensions? Any other pitfalls to watch for doing this swap?

Answer:   As long as the input and output spline match there should be no issues

Jeep BA10 Shift Problem

January 5, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a Jeep Comanche 1988 4,0L

Question:  I have a Comanche with the Peugeot BA10/5 and NP231J T-case. The transmission is stuck in first gear with the stick moving freely and in m5r1 BA10_Jeepfact has since been removed to try and diagnose (no success). Is this something common or that anyone at Midwest has come across? It would be great if someone has dealt with this and or has an idea of what needs to be done or replaced. I would then have a better idea of what it will cost to fix (time/money) and the most efficient way to proceed. any suggestions will be appreciated and taken into consideration.

Answer:  This is a common issue for the BA10 unit. The shift stub gets worn on the end that goes down into the transmission allowing it to come out of gear and still leave the transmission in gear. Unfortunately with limited parts available the only option is to build up the shift stub width by welding and add approx. 1/16” to each side of the stub to prevent this from continuing to happen. You can start thicker and just keep narrowing it up until the shift is good.

I have a jeep Comanche 1988 4.0L 4WD

Question:  I have a Comanche with the Peugeot BA10/5 and NP231J Transfer case. The transmission is stuck in first gear with the stick moving freely and in fact has since been removed to try and diagnose (no success). Answer: Repairing the BA10 is not an economical option and some parts may be hard or impossible to findNV3550_manual. We can provide an NV3550 update kit that comes with a new transmission  bell housing, external slave and line, throwout bearing, clutch fork and retainer,  shift stub, shift stick and a 23 spline input for your transfer case your cost is $2195.00, plus freight. This transmission has a 12 month warranty.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Popping out of gear.

- Author: bartbarton

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 V6 2WD

Question:  My trans pops out of 1st gear. Told that it is the nv3500synchronize gear. How much is the gear and do i need special tools. I do all my own work just never took a 5 speed apart,

Answer:  This problem is more than likely a fork, gear and slider  issue. there is a special holding fixture for putting the trans back together and a special tool for installing the ext. housing

The tools to do the job are around $490 through Chrysler if still available. Below are the parts you will probably need.

  • 1-2 Shift Fork, 1.950″ Steel Piece (93-Up) part number TRS404841B your cost $37.17
  • 1-2 Synchro Assembly (NV 3500) (3 Piece Type) (L93-Up) part number ALT34403 your cost $76.86

The 1st gear would be $95.00 if needed but we would need to know if it uses a multi piece syncro ring or a single piece. Please give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.
