May 21, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a Wrangler TJ converted into a 4.7 V8 H.O

Question: I am interested to change from automatic nv3500(545RFE) to a 6-Speed manual such as the Getrag 238 (MWTCRY033).

Answer:  We do not have anything manual that will bolt behind the 4.7L other than a NV3500 out of a Dodge selling price would be $1595.00 outright no core required plus freight.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Popping out of gear.

January 5, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 V6 2WD

Question:  My trans pops out of 1st gear. Told that it is the nv3500synchronize gear. How much is the gear and do i need special tools. I do all my own work just never took a 5 speed apart,

Answer:  This problem is more than likely a fork, gear and slider  issue. there is a special holding fixture for putting the trans back together and a special tool for installing the ext. housing

The tools to do the job are around $490 through Chrysler if still available. Below are the parts you will probably need.

  • 1-2 Shift Fork, 1.950″ Steel Piece (93-Up) part number TRS404841B your cost $37.17
  • 1-2 Synchro Assembly (NV 3500) (3 Piece Type) (L93-Up) part number ALT34403 your cost $76.86

The 1st gear would be $95.00 if needed but we would need to know if it uses a multi piece syncro ring or a single piece. Please give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.

Shifting Problem Blazer 1993

September 16, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 1993 Blazer 5.7L 4wd manual transmission

Question:  Any advice would be grateful,i have this nv3500NV 3500 in my blazer and everything seems fine with the thing other than the shifter is a bit sloppy but i drained the oil and and a small piece of what i would guess is a spring shaped like a allen wrench a small roller/bearing deal that looks like a small matchbox car wheel with a nipple on each side and part of the stamped steel reaction plate were at the bottom of the trans stuck to the magnet,i read a article once that said the reaction plate can be removed with the use of a new updated shifter,is this true and what are your thoughts.

Answer: This was a one year of a GM poor design…. This can be fixed by updating the shifter stub assembly with a NV27874 stub assembly. Order the following part:

63 Shifter Assembly, 3rd Design (Internal Detent) NV27874 $135.00

NV3500 transmissions 2000 Chevy Problems?

July 23, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a Silverado, Chevy 2000 1/2 ton 4WD.

Question:  Just bought this truck. Will nv3500not go into reverse. It grinds and pops out. It also makes noise going forward. Should I repair or replace. Previous owner towed 8000 lb. trailer and backed it up. It stopped working shortly after. Also says 5th is bad too. Is it bad 5/R syncro or gear? Shift fork?

Answer:   From your description of all the problems it sounds like possibly excessive bearing wear is allowing shafts to move, plus damaged 5th reverse gear and synchro assembly and shift fork wear beyond the limits. The best option would be to install one of our rebuilt NV3500 transmissions in your ½ ton 4WD pickup truck.

Order our part number MTGM007 your cost is $1133.33 plus $250.00 core deposit plus Shipping. This transmission will have all new bearings, gaskets, seals and syncro rings and a one year warranty.  See the other parts we can provide for the NV3500 HM290 0n our site.

Question:  This truck has the GM NV3500HD; Bought this trans new in 2002 and installed into G20 Chev van. Now has 35k mi. It has developed a low “growl” when letting out the clutch in neutral. Pulled clutch shaft bearing and appears OK but will replace it anyhow. I need your part number to order this bearing; it is 23mm wide). Is there any other source of this “growl” in the NV3500HD that I need to attend to ?? I do not find any metal shavings collecting on the magnetic plugs, oil (Redline) is very clean and shifts are perfect. Thanks and advise.

Answer: your diagnosis is probable correct.  We can provide a new input bearing order our part number M802048 your cost is $15.50.

GM NV3500 5 Speed Input Shaft Problem

March 17, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a GMC 1994 1/2 ton 2WD with the 305.nv3500

Question:  I just traded for an NV3500 5 speed transmission. It has a clunk in all gears in the same spot of rotation. I believe that it is due to a broken tooth on the input gear. Can you confirm is dispute this for me? And if so, what would be the best fix for this?

Answer:   Sounds like you have diagnosed it correctly. We would suggest taking it apart and verifying that is the only issue.

There is some good news:   with care and the bell off the cluster gear and input can be spread with pry bars and the input replaced without taking the rest of the gear train out of the tail section.  The part required to fix the problem is :  Input Shaft part number MWTNV18125R your cost is $82.09 plus S&H.   You will probably will want to order an input bearing and seal as well.

GMC 96 5.7L Loud squeal with the clutch released,

January 9, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a GMC K1500 1996 5.7L Manual 4WD

Questions:
NV3500 transmission with 230k miles on it had a loud squeal when the clutch released, suggesting a release bearing. Replaced release bearing – clutch is about 2 years old – noise is still there. What else could cause the noise symptoms of a release bearing? Should I replace the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel – or is this indicative of internal bearings on the tranny.   Can you help?

Answer:

Based on our experience the problem (loud squeal) you describe is typically caused by failure input bearing.  With the mileage over 200k we would suggest that its time for new bearings, gaskets, seals and syncro ring.

Order our part number MWTBK235EWS $352.82 plus about $17.50 S&H.  This kit fits 1996-1998 Chevy/GMC  with single ball input and output

Bearings, 1st and 2nd synchro rings are multi-piece and the front and rear countershaft journals are 33mm OD.

We can also provide a rebuilt unit with 12 month warranty if you are unable to overhaul, just let us know.  If you need technical assistance with Dis-assembly or re assembly give Scott a call at 888-824-2012. You can see the other parts and rebuily NV3500 units we provide on our site.
