NP205 Transfer Case Bearing Issue

September 19, 2017 - Author: CourtneyN

Question: Howdy, looking to rebuild my transfer case, thus looking at your rebuild kits. The problem is when I shift into low range 4 wheel, I get a grinding noise and it won’t engage or will pop out real quick if it did engage. 4 wheel high seems fine. So any info as to what you think is wrong would be great. Thanks

Answer: From your description it sounds like the front bearing in the front output shaft is failing allowing it to pop out.  We would suggest that you start with our bearing rebuild kit it fits NP205 in Dodges 1989 to 1993 is our part number TRSBK205D, your cost is  $237.97 plus S&H.

Rebuilt Transfer Case

April 18, 2016 - Author: CourtneyN

I’ve just rebuilt the Transfer case after “notorious rub” issue (152,000 mile) output shaft will not turn by hand. Need to know is this normal before reinstall on the truck…?

The output shaft should turn by hand, when in the transfer case is in 2WD, the input and rear output should turn together. Make sure the rear snapping is seated in the bearing groove. Something is bound up and I would not recommend installing it that way.

NP205 Customization

June 22, 2015 - Author: CourtneyN

Question: Hi, I am looking for an NP205 to put behind a GM 4×4 NV4500 for my project truck. I think the simplest option would be a customization round pattern, 32 spline input with an Advance Adapters spacer. I think these were used with the TH400 transmission. Is this transfer case one that you can provide or build or possibly recommend alternatives? Thanks!

Answer: We can build a customization round pattern NP205 but there will be tail modifications that you can make on the NV4500 to be made due to the space needed for the shift rail.  A 712529 bracket will also be needed to mount the shifter for the NP205 your cost $75.00. This transfer case is part number TCGM003 cost is $1000 outright plus freight. It is a modified oil pump retainer… The case is prone to wear where the pump retainer sits so the modified retainer (made longer) to prevent wearing thru and damaging the pump order:

Transfer Case Tahoe 2004 Replacement

February 16, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 2004 Tahoe 4WD 5.3Lt

Question:  Comments/Questions:  Hi I’m looking to replace my transfer case. I’m currently running 35″ tires with a 4.56 gear ratio looking for something that will hold up thanks.

Answer:   Assuming the truck has a NVG246 now? It is an electric shift and is a good transfer case as long as the auto position isn’t used.. unfortunately without switching to  manual shift transfer case there really isn’t much available because of the electronics.

We can supply a brand new transfer case TCGM076 $995.00 exchange core deposit $250.00 plus freight. Give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.  You can see the other parts that we can provide for the 246 Transfer case on our site.

Cadillac Escalade Transfer Case Break in?

January 16, 2015 - Author: bartbarton

I have a 2002 Cadillac Escalade 6.0L automatic

Question:  I just installed my Midwest rebuild Ifs front differential and wanted to if I needed observe a break-in period?

Answer:   There isn’t a real break in period but it is a good idea to change the fluid in 10,000 miles or so and then every 30,000 after that

Answer:   As long as the input and output spline match there should be no issues

1996 Chevrolet 305 1/2 ton

December 30, 2014 - Author: bartbarton

I have a K1500 1996 Automatic 4WD

Question;  The vehicle just quit like it had been put in neutral at 70mph didn’t make any clanks or grinding. At the shop it had to be pushed in.Upon further investigation I was told they engaged the 4wd in Low and the truck would move.1st question is if the chain came apart( w/o any noises) then how could it be a drive chain and still move and can this issue be somehow rerouted around the transfer case w/o having to be sold a rebuilt one because I’m 600mi from home on a holiday?

Answer:   It sounds like a range fork issue… the transfer case range fork is worn allowing it to come out of high range but still shift into low range… unfortunately the transfer case would have to come apart to fix this or install a rebuilt

Is this electric shift or manual shift transfer case, give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.

I have a 2005 Jeep Rubicon 4.0L 4W

Question:  I have the np-241. The output front bearing from the factory are sloppy, causing some vibration. Does anyone make replacement bearings that are tight?? I bought a brand new 241 from factory and front output yoke is not tight.

Answer:  Unfortunately there is not an update for this. It is a ball bearing so there will always be a slight bit if play.  You can see the other parts that we can supply for the Jeep NP241 on our site.
