Shifting Problem Ford F250 1990May 9, 2014 - Author: bartbarton - No Comments
I have a Ford diesel F250 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive.
Question: Comments/Questions: I have an issue with my tranny going into reverse. I have to roll back or roll forward in order to get it into gear. It grinds with the clutch completely depressed. It also makes a grinding noise in neutral with the clutch out. Would you be able to give me some insight and a possible parts list/ quote on how much parts would cost for this type of repair?
Answer: According to our information your transmission is the ZF S542. The problem you describe is a common problem with this transmission.
